elizabeth-colen-coverElizabeth Colen: How the Power of Visualization Helped Me Conquer Obesity

by Telishia Berry

Visualization can be defined as the power of mentally using visual images to create your desired outcome. In other words, picture yourself successful and watch what happens!

Elizabeth Colen is a personal confidence and conditioning coach. She says using visualization helped her to lose 115 lbs. and keep it off for 8 years. We spoke to Elizabeth about her weight loss journey and how today, she coaches others on how to achieve better health and fitness.

At a young age Elizabeth knew she wanted to get away from her small town in Texas and pursue her dreams, but like many women, after marriage, the role of wife and mother takes precedence over everything. Before long, Elizabeth had pushed her dreams to the side. Feeling lost and depressed, she turned to food for comfort and ballooned to over 240 lbs, and wore a size 24. Her reality came when she had to have her gallbladder removed. It was at that time when she knew she had to change her life and her health. Using the power of visualization became her driving force.

Explain how you used the Power of Visualization to lose 115 lbs.
The power of visualization is very potent. It is used by world-class athletes as well as CEO’s. If you can see it you can achieve it. Every day, when I did my cardio, I would close my eyes and see myself as lean, trim and fit. I worked out hard, watched what I ate and visualized so much that one day I didn’t have to close my eyes to see that lean, trim and fit lady.

What has your weight battle and weight loss experience taught you?
My weight battle has taught me that there is nothing I can’t do. I learned that if you are consistent and faithful to your plan, you can accomplish anything you desire.

What are three keys to transforming your mind, body, and spirit?

1. Set a goal: Make a realistic goal that has a timeline. For example, “I want to lose eight pounds in a month.” Not realistic: “I want to lose 30 pounds in a month.”

2. Make a plan: Once you have a clear and concise goal, you now have to write out a plan. Example: “I will work out three times a week. (Set time out in your calendar for your workouts.) I will lose two pounds a week to hit my eight-pound goal (weigh yourself weekly).

3. Work your plan: You have created a plan–now you have to move. This is the action part of your plan.

As a confidence and conditioning coach, what is the process to helping women regain themselves?

elizabethcolen_7051-2As a confidence and conditioning coach, I help women gain their confidence by helping them to focus on their goal, create an action plan and hold them accountable for their actions. Once they have accomplished a goal, their confidence is boosted and when they move to their next goals and accomplish them over and over, it is conditioning. It becomes a pattern that they can continue.

What has been your best outcome and accomplishments since you refocused your own life?
My best outcome since I refocused my life is helping others refocus their life and accomplish their goals. Whether through motivational speaking, my blogs, TV appearances, or social media postings, I am here to help anyone who is willing to help themselves.

Elizabeth says her experience has led her to her passion for helping others. “If I can do it, you can too,” she says.
