The Baptist Junkie was submitted for consideration to the 2014 NAACP Image Awards

Telishia describes her debut novel The Baptist Junkie in three words; Family, Forgiveness, and Redemption.

After sixteen year old Brenda Wilson becomes pregnant, the church shuns her, the father of her unborn rejects her, and her father’s words, “You are ruined” penetrated deep in her soul, she left the security of her parent’s home in search of love in all the wrong places. She ventured into a world forbidden by her Christian upbringing and Bible-toting father. The Baptist Junkie is a story of redemption for young Brenda who went from the church house to the dope house to the whorehouse and eventually the jailhouse. She’s been so abused by men she hardly recognizes the good man that crosses her path. The Baptist Junkie is told with vivid characters from high rollin’ street thugs to holier-than-thou church folk. You may laugh, you may cry, but no doubt you will be enthralled in this family’s drama.

Telishia Berry will be available to sign copies of her book, The Baptist Junkie, Saturday December 7, 2013 at 6pm. at Black Stone Bookstore and Cultural Center, 214 W. Michigan Ave Ypsilanti, Michigan.
