Singer Jody Watley is not only an entertainer; she is a savvy businesswoman. The Grammy-winning pop music diva is expanding her brand with her signature line of home fragrances and candles.

Jody Watley is known for her 80’s pop music, unique style, and fun fashion trends.

Today, she continues to break new ground in creativity, revealing more of her entrepreneurial dreams and ambitions.

We caught up with the music diva to discuss her signature products and music.

Who is Jody Watley at her core, professionally?

Professionally, very tenacious, detailed oriented, and multi-faceted, always at the helm of my journey and hoping my endeavors are inspiring to others, stay motivated to keep striving no matter the obstacles. Nothing is given to me, so I’m about creating opportunities for myself, don’t wait for stuff to happen!

What are some of your most memorable moments as a music artist?

They happen all the time. One of my last shows pre-pandemic in D.C. at The Howard Theatre, Sony Hall NYC.. I’ve been invited by special invitation by two Presidents, one to sing at a non-partisan event at The White House (President George W. Bush & First Lady Barbara Bush). Second, for President Jimmy Carter & First Lady Roslyn Carter to work on Habitat for Humanity. I’ve had lunch with the Queen of Malaysia at The Royal Palace. Winning Best New Artist Grammy. Being in the historic Black Issue of VOGUE Italia and having a television commercial in Japan. It’s a long and ongoing list. I’m very blessed and always looking to new adventures and moments!

What motivated you to create a home fragrance and candle product line?

I’ve always loved candles since I was a Girl Scout and made my first one. I am creating a peaceful environment in my home and travel life. Backstage, you name it, candles and fragrance go where I go, so it was natural to add it to my business tree. I wrote a song called ‘Sanctuary’ a few years ago and ‘Paradise’, and with those songs, I launched my first two candles in 2014. The pandemic and time away from the stage have allowed me to focus on my line and online boutique jodywatleyshop.com. To bring this part of me to the public is beautiful. It’s that sense of Jody Watley’s chill vibe to the home lifestyle.
