Priya Kumar crowned Mrs. U.S. Ambassador Queen Woman of Achievement 2025, is a passionate advocate for body positivity and self-acceptance. Did you know that only 2% of women describe themselves as beautiful? Studies reveal that nearly 84% of women and girls experience body dissatisfaction and struggle with body image. This issue affects men too—14% of males have reported low self-esteem due to discomfort with their physical appearance. Isn’t it time we push back against unrealistic media standards and redefine beauty by embracing our bodies for their strengths and capabilities?

The Japanese concept of “Wabi-Sabi” teaches us that imperfections are what make us truly beautiful. Embracing our flaws has become essential in a world where societal beauty standards often misguide our sense of self-worth. Body positivity is a powerful movement encouraging us to challenge these norms and celebrate the diversity of human bodies. As an advocate for body positivity, I believe promoting self-love, self-acceptance, and inclusivity is crucial.

When we accept ourselves unconditionally, we cultivate self-love, which in turn enables us to treat others with kindness and compassion. Conversely, dissatisfaction with our own bodies can lead to projecting negativity onto family, friends, and even strangers, perpetuating a toxic cycle.

The Consequences of Negative Body Image

Negative body image can have severe mental and physical health consequences. It often leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and even eating disorders. The constant bombardment of unrealistic beauty ideals through media and social platforms can leave us feeling inadequate, fueling a never-ending cycle of self-criticism.

The Power of Body Positivity

Body positivity helps us appreciate the unique beauty of all body types, shapes, colors, and abilities. Embracing our bodies for their strengths and capabilities motivates us to exercise, nourish ourselves, and engage in self-care without resorting to harmful practices like binge eating or starvation.

By promoting body positivity, we challenge societal beauty standards and encourage individuals to focus on their strengths beyond physical appearance. Beauty is not one-size-fits-all—it exists in all forms.

Look Good, Feel Good: Celebrating Diversity

In line with this mission, I recently launched Look Good Feel Good, a clothing and accessories line designed for women and girls of all shapes, sizes, and nationalities. Through Apki Creations, we’ve organized several fashion shows featuring this inclusive collection, showcasing that true beauty lies in our unique features, skin tones, and individuality. Our motto is simple yet profound: Come As You Are.

Start Your Day with Body Positivity

Nobody should feel inadequate or unworthy of love based on their size or appearance. I encourage you to start each day with a positive body affirmation:
“I am beautiful, worthy of love, and proud to take up the space I deserve.”

By embracing body positivity, we can rewrite the narrative and create a world where everyone feels beautiful and valued.Mrs. U.S. Ambassador Queen from Woman of Achievement.
