Share an inspirational occurrence in your life or a significant challenge you’ve faced in your journey, and how you overcame it.

Losing my mother at seven and my father at thirteen shattered my world and left me facing unimaginable grief, loneliness, and hardship. Their deaths brought not only emotional devastation but also financial, educational, and psychological challenges that felt insurmountable. I often questioned how I would survive such loss, but in the darkest moments, I clung to God’s promises, especially Isaiah 43:2, which reminded me I was never alone. Thirty-nine years after my mother’s passing and decades since my father’s, I still carry their legacy close, wearing a wristband engraved with ABASO (my father’s business and name), ESOB (my mother’s name), and ILF3—“I live for three,” symbolizing that I live for them and for myself. Though their businesses and dreams ended with their lives, their faith in God and love for us planted a seed of resilience in me. That seed has grown into purpose, guiding me through life’s storms and giving me the strength to encourage others facing similar loss. Moving forward doesn’t mean forgetting—it means honoring those we’ve lost by living fully, healing deeply, and fulfilling the purpose still ahead. You are not alone, and even in grief, you can rise.

What are three key pieces of advice you’d offer to others pursuing a similar path?

  1. Embrace the Power of Purpose – Let Your Pain Fuel Your Passion. Knowing why you do what you do will sustain you through challenges.
  2. Invest in Lifelong Learning – Continually grow through books, mentors, and experiences. Knowledge expands your impact and sharpens your voice.
  3. Build Strategic Alliances – You can’t walk this journey alone. Surround yourself with mentors, encouragers, and collaborators who challenge and support you.

What makes your book, Adapt and Advance, unique, and how does it serve your audience?

Adapt and Advance blends personal resilience, biblical insight, mental health expertise, and scientific strategy into a faith-based blueprint for transformation. Grounded in Dr. Babatunde’s real-life journey—from orphanhood in Nigeria to achieving an MD, MPH, PhD, and over 60 publications—this book offers more than motivation. It delivers hope and a plan.

Its seven-part MAPLAMP framework, Meaning-Making, Action, Planning, Learning, Alliance Formation, Mission Statement, and Prayer, guides readers step by step through adversity. Each chapter includes reflection prompts, practical tools, and success strategies for lasting change.

This is a book born from both pain and purpose. Whether you’re facing burnout, loss, transitions, or spiritual stagnation, Adapt and Advance equips you to rise with faith, clarity, and action.

What’s ahead for you?
Starting July 2025, I’ll serve as an attending psychiatrist and Assistant Professor, mentoring future physicians and expanding faith-integrated care. I’m also developing an Adapt and Advance coaching platform (courses, workbook, group sessions), and advancing research on mental health disparities, particularly in underserved and cancer-affected communities.

Is there anything more you’d like to share?
Losing my parents early ignited a calling to heal and uplift. My mission through medicine, research, and mentorship is to help others turn trials into triumphs and live with purpose, faith, and impact.
