The book, which will be published by Strive International Publishing Group on April 30, 2023, is a collaborative effort of thirty co-authors and has been compiled by Telishia Berry., the publisher of Courageous Woman Magazine. The highly anticipated book will be available for purchase at most major retailers as well as on Amazon.

The Heart of a Black Man is a captivating compilation of stories that offers a resounding voice to the experiences of Black men who have faced significant adversity. These stories are written with great depth and sincerity, providing readers with powerful insights into the lives of these incredible individuals who have shown remarkable courage and perseverance in the face of challenges.

Eric Mays is the councilman for the first ward in the city of Flint, Michigan. He was elected as a Flint City councilman in November 2013 and is in his tenth year. Prior to becoming a councilman, Mays worked for General Motors for over 30 years and was an UAW elected official, holding various appointed positions representing UAW United Auto Worker employees on the union side.

Dr. Ryeal Simms Ph.D.  Relationship Scientist, Body Language, Robotic Romance/ Sex Expert, Motivational Speaker, Neuropsychologist & Behaviorist. Dr. Ryeal Simms is the CEO of NeuroCore Research Institute. A cognitive neuropsychologist, behaviorist,  International speaker, and the leading authority on the neuroscience, neurobiology, neurochemistry, human behavior of romantic relationships/Sex, and spirituality worldwide.

DeWaun E. Robinson is a servant leader with exceptional professional talent as the CEO of

Artistic Visions Enterprise, a social enterprise organization. DeWaun has experience in public

administration, community development, outreach coordination, community-based public health,

programs, and project-driven initiatives using technology and multimedia services. His work spans this continent, Haiti, and Africa, leading the cause for liberation through eliminating systemic and structural racism.

Dr. Latame Phillips is a community activist that has a heart for children. His goal is to help young scholars reset their circumstances through food and finances. He is relentless. Latame has worked with federal, state, city, and community leaders to unite people. Dr. Phillps has a heart for people and believes that everyone can succeed when given an equitable opportunity.

Dartanyan T. Jamerson is a native of Flint, MI and he’s been a teacher, preacher, and leader in his community for more than 25 years. He’s a Pastor, Mentor, and Entrepreneur. His life is a life of resilience, determination, and passion. He’s the author of “Call Me Ishmael, Defying the Odds” and the Founder/CEO of LBD Legacy Consulting.

Prophet Anthony D. Shannon is an award-winning keynote speaker, leadership expert, author, and pastor,  a compelling voice in motivational speaking today! Leveraging 25+ years of
leadership experience from ministry and the corporate sector, he is on a mission to empower individuals to attain success. He reconstructs corporate mindsets to overcome obstacles and develop the heart of a champion.

Lee Roy Evans Jr, was born and raised in Saginaw, MI. He is married with 4 children and 2 grandchildren. He is an ordained Minister at Mt Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Marvin T. Smith. He has recently written an Easter Play and as an actor, he appeared in several stage plays and 2 movies.

Mel Davis is a self-taught artist who is compassionate about people, showing their strengths in his vibrant digital art. His strong faith in God and love for family is the spirit that allows him to expand his gifts that have brought balance to his life. Inspired to create by his mother, and his family, to become an achiever at all costs.

I’m Chuckii Montgomery of Flint, Michigan. I’m often asked “Why” do I do the things that I do serving people in the community? I just want to use my life to inspire life in others.. No matter the falls of life, I have been up and I have been down, but what you see now is my God showing off.

Anthony Washington is a college and professional track and field coach. He has worked with 42 NFL prospects for the Draft and coached 2 Olympic contenders in track and field. He also has been the guest speaker at numerous coaching seminars and clinics.

I am Charles Winfrey, father, grandfather, brother and husband.  I am a lifelong resident of Flint, MI where I am the executive director of the Floyd J. McCree Theatre. I also serve as a Genesee County Commissioner, representing the 2nd District.  Our body of nine Commissioners is the governing body for the 400,000 people who live in Genesee County, MI.

Kwame MA McPherson was a 2007 Poetic Soul winner and Bursary Awardee for Flash Fiction, in The Bridport Prize: International Creative Writing Competition. A qualified trainer, he has conducted writing workshops in Canada, England, and Jamaica. Recently, three short story submissions were accepted by a UK publisher. His latest book, ‘My Date With Depression: from mental uncertainty to Self-fulfillment’, is available online.

Andre Vaughn was born in Baltimore Maryland. He is a family man, author, business owner, and serial entrepreneur. His belief in God and family drive him every day to dream big. Andre has the ability to turn setbacks into opportunities to learn, grow and help others. He believes when you help others accomplish dreams and goals you are blessed.

Willie Turral. The moment he walks into the room you know something amazing is about to happen. His smile is contagious. His eyes are pleasant. His passion for people and Christ is a “breath of fresh air”. A Single Father, Restaurant Manager, Small Business Owner, Aspiring Lawyer, Realtor, Educator, Model, Actor, Author, and Entrepreneur. Willie Turral is a man on a mission.

Larry Laws. Twenty-four-year U.S. Army Veteran, Larry Laws, Sr., is Founder and President of First Home Alliance, a successful HUD – Approved nonprofit housing organization that serves veterans and low to moderate-income communities. He earned his MBA from Troy State University and BS from the University of Maryland. Larry is an active leader and works continually to enrich communities and encourage others.

Patrick Julian is a husband of 20 years and a proud father of 4, Mr. Julian enjoys working in the community with his Masonic sisters and brothers. Patrick also has recorded music and has acted in plays and a few movies. In addition, he has positioned himself politically, currently serving on the City of Flint’s Ethic and Accountability Board.

Malik Muhammad was born in DC and graduated from USC.  Former 1984 Olympian in track and field.  Youth Development sprint coach that set National records. A Former Mortgage Consultant. Currently the Vice President of the Crusader Praise Scott Scholarship Fund.  Since 1990 as the founder of Malik Books, he has giving voice to the voiceless. Has been book activist for over 30 years.

Dr. Jonathan Haynes is an award-winning recording artist from Gulfport, MS, who has a passion to drive music as far as his mission reaches. He has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the Gospel Industry. He is a 3x international best-selling author, Serial entrepreneur & motivational speaker also commonly known as “Songbird Of the South.

Absalom Lane is a hometown man of Dallas, Texas, South Oak Cliff area, dedicated father of two daughters and granddaughter, who has worked twenty-five years as a truck driver, model and actor. Through perseverance and dedication in 2020, he became an IFBB Pro bodybuilder. This year in October he will be promoting his first bodybuilding show. The OWU Longhorn Classic.

Justin “The Refresher” Whitely is the Wellness Professional and Certified Personal Trainer who meets people where they are on life’s journey and assists them in refreshing the way they look and feel. Justin’s genuine concern for people propels him to consistently motivate and coach each individual client to be the absolute best version of themselves spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Johnell Allen-Bey is a self-motivated leader among men. He believes that every person deserves a second chance. Johnell is an advocate for creating opportunities for success. He believes in tearing down all barriers that restrict returning citizens and those that are Justice impacted. He works countless hours the program IGNITE, which stands for Individuals Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education.

Carl Gilliard is a veteran actor, director, producer, acting/production mentor/coach, and digital content creator and consultant. Newly based in Atlanta, he is the president/CEO of the Gilliard Media Group, LLC. Mr. Gilliard’s imdb.com page boasts of over 125 titles, including The Family Business, Bel-Air, Shameless, and FBI: Most Wanted.

Kendre’ Berry is an actor and R&B recording artist, songwriter from Flint, Michigan. A God-fearing young man who entered the Hollywood television industry at the age of 12.  He is most known for his role as Jabari on the TV show “Girlfriends”, “Backpack Boy” on “Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified Survival Guide,” “Durrel”l on the HBO series “Six Feet Under,” and “Khalil” on “Hand of God.”

Cornell Ward is an active community advocate and member within the Greater Los Angeles area. A natural leader with experience in working with various at-risk populations, Cornell is committed to helping the community achieve recovery and wellness and breaking generational curses. Cornell aims to impact and improve community educational and vocational issues while working in gang violence prevention and intervention.

Pastor BJ King a California native born in Pasadena, CA raised throughout Southern CA. Is a business mind who has had a 30-year career in the Entertainment space with the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, and Jimmy Ivine of Interscope Records. PBJ, as he is affectionately known, is a pillar in the community, Pastor through out Southern CA, and Philanthropist throughout the country.

Eric L. Baker is a determined and innovative professional. He is currently the General Sales Manager at Urban One Dallas and a veteran of the US Navy. He holds a B.B.A from the University of North Texas and is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He’s driven to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Dexter L. Scott is a powerful motivational speaker, trainer, author, and instructor who loves to shift the paradigm of his audiences, both nationally and internationally. Having studied with World Renowned Motivational Speaker Mr. Les Brown, his speaking approach stimulates the subconscious mind to invoke lasting change. Roosevelt Ethridge, Jr., Ph.D. is a global leader to nations. He oversees pastors, business, and community leaders around the world. Orlando Miller is more than just a regular TV and radio host, multitalented Orlando is also known as the Landlord. He is a trailblazer, one of the Bahamas’ top international gospel Reggae artists, and an inspiring producer for not only himself but for upcoming talented gospel artists, catapulting them to the next level in their gifts as God is doing with him. Landlord continually dominates the music industry, creating the Bahamas brand to be a global hallmark.

Allan Sealy’s passion for the success of others is reflected in his various business enterprises. As a motivational speaker, Allan has helped many recognize their inner genius, change their mindset, and make positive changes to their lives. Darryl Ford is an accomplished businessman, entrepreneur, minister, musician, author, and communications expert. He founded the birth of Detroit’s first 24-hour urban gospel music station, which he then managed successfully for two years. Darryl hosted an Emmy award-winning TV show for ten years on the local NBC affiliate. Darryl founded Promise Communications (1998), a media
production company providing television and radio support
