Founded in 2011 as a humble blog, Courageous Woman quickly grew into an online magazine. By 2014, during a season of transition from married to single mom and with only $30 in her account, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Dr. Telishia Berry boldly expanded into print.
Dr. Berry is a bestselling author, accomplished publisher, and playwright. She has guided more than 500 individuals in writing their stories and becoming bestselling authors. Her stage plays—Wake Up and Wake Up 2 (starring Gospel singer Deitrick Haddon and actor Carl Payne Jr.), and Hairweave (starring comedians Foolish and Mike Epps)—have been praised for their humor, social commentary, and powerful storytelling.
In 2024, she was crowned Ms. Elite U.S. Woman of Achievement, also holding the Ms. Elite West Coast title. The Woman of Achievement Pageant honors women leaders for entrepreneurial work and community service, and Dr. Berry was celebrated for her platform: Empowering Women in Business and Publishing.
Her accolades include an Honorary Doctorate, the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Biden, and a Humanitarian Award from Trinity International School of Ambassadors. In addition She has received the Best Media Award 2019, Just For Her Magazine (Arts), Phenomenal Woman Award, WIP Award (Women in Power), Dangerman Hero Award, Black Business Women Rock, Literary Excellence Award, and Write On Awards.
She is the mother of 4 adults and grandmother of 3.
