Mervelle A. Sage, also known as Princess Velle, born and raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands, is an educator, published author, and entrepreneur.  Mervelle believes empowering minds as a community through creative works such as poetry and the arts is the key to success. She also advocates for students with Narcolepsy and Autism.

My chapter, “You, Too, Can Bloom,” is an inspirational story about how I grew up and, despite my situation, was still successful. I wanted to inspire others to use their talents to encourage others who may need that push to bloom.

What inspired you to write this story and contribute to the book?

I was inspired by the many women before me who worked hard and were able to bloom in their situation.   I was encouraged by women in my circle who have seen me bloom and feel my story is worth sharing.

What do you hope readers will gain from reading this chapter?

I want readers to gain a sense of hope and inspiration that, despite their circumstances, they too can bloom
